๐Ÿš€ How I Learned to Build My Own GPT in a Webinar

Updated
โ€ข4 min read

I attended a webinar on Generative AI, and one idea from the session really caught my attention โ€” creating your own custom GPT for specific tasks.

Instead of using a general AI for everything, you can build a specialized GPT that performs a single task really well. For example, the speaker showed how he built a GPT that generates tweets for his X (Twitter) account automatically.

This concept is powerful because you can create a personal AI assistant for any task you want. ๐Ÿค–

๐Ÿง  What is a Custom GPT?

A Custom GPT is basically a personalized AI model that you configure for a specific purpose.

Instead of repeatedly explaining what you want the AI to do, you can create a GPT that already understands:

  • Your objective

  • Your style

  • Your workflow

So every time you use it, it behaves exactly the way you want.

โš™๏ธ How to Create Your Own GPT

During the webinar, the speaker demonstrated a very simple process.

Step 1: Open Custom GPT Builder

You can create your own GPT using the Custom GPT builder in ChatGPT.

Similarly, if you use Gemini, you can create one using Gemini Gems.

Step 2: Give Your GPT a Name

Choose a name based on the purpose.

Examples:

  • Tweet Generator GPT ๐Ÿฆ

  • Blog Writing GPT โœ๏ธ

  • Study Assistant GPT ๐Ÿ“š

  • Coding Helper GPT ๐Ÿ’ป

Step 3: Define the Objective

Now write the main goal of your GPT.

Example:

"This GPT helps me generate engaging tweets for my X account related to AI, technology, and productivity."

The clearer your objective is, the better the AI will perform.

Step 4: Configure Your GPT

There is a Configure section where you can make your GPT more advanced.

Here you can add:

  • Custom instructions

  • Tone and writing style

  • Behavior rules

  • Task-specific guidelines

Example instructions:

  • Always write tweets under 280 characters

  • Use a catchy hook

  • Add emojis

  • Focus on AI and tech content

This helps the GPT understand exactly how it should respond.

โœ๏ธ Make the AI Write in Your Style

One interesting trick shared during the webinar was about making the AI sound more like you.

Sometimes AI-generated content feels very generic or robotic.

To solve this, you can:

๐Ÿ“ธ Upload screenshots of your previous writing
๐Ÿ“„ Provide examples of blogs or tweets you have written
๐Ÿงพ Share documents that show your writing style

Then add an instruction like:

"Analyze the writing style from the uploaded examples and generate responses in the same tone and style."

By doing this, the GPT will learn your personal style of writing, making the output feel more natural and authentic.

This is a great trick if you want the content to not look like it was written by AI.

๐Ÿ’ก Why This is Powerful

Creating custom GPTs can save a lot of time and increase productivity.

You can build GPTs for:

  • Content creation โœ๏ธ

  • Coding help ๐Ÿ’ป

  • Study notes ๐Ÿ“š

  • Social media posts ๐Ÿ“ฑ

  • Business automation ๐Ÿ“Š

Instead of repeating prompts again and again, your AI assistant already knows what to do.

๐Ÿ›  My Thoughts After the Webinar

After attending this webinar, I realized that AI is not just about using tools โ€” it is about building your own tools.

Anyone can create small AI assistants to make their workflow easier.

As a student learning coding and AI, I think this idea is very powerful. In the future, I plan to experiment with building custom GPTs for:

  • Generating blog ideas

  • Helping with coding

  • Learning new concepts faster

๐ŸŽฏ Final Thoughts

We are entering a time where everyone can build their own AI assistants without needing to train large models from scratch.

By simply defining:

  • a name

  • an objective

  • and custom instructions

you can create a GPT that works exactly the way you want.

And this is just the beginning of what AI can do. ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you tried building your own custom GPT or Gemini Gem? What would you build?
